Literal Form (2016)
Aerospace sphere, optic fluid, turbine, stainless steel plinth,
1.8M x 1.8M X 3M high
Literal Form is composed of a large transparent sphere containing a swirling vortex. Inspired by cosmology and astrophysics , the sculpture bends light like a prism, refracting and inverting the light that passes through it, presenting the public with a new perspective of the surrounding area
The sculpture Literal Form is inspired by the scientific principles of Optics, Cosmology and Astrophysics, representing energy, life, movement and the fluid element of water, bringing notions of feng shui and Chē to the public.
It aims to inspire the public with a display of ever changing fluid movement within the perfect optics of a 4 ton glass like sphere produced for the artist by American Aerospace affiliated to NASA.
Over the last 15 years Petroc Sesti has been developing moving liquid sculptures, creating multi-ton optic spheres, which operate like solid lenses. A vast crystal-ball that bends light and dramatically transforms landscape and architecture surrounding it. Literal Form is the largest unique optic sphere in the world.
